Water birth has become a popular method among mothers who prefer a natural birth with minimal intervention. The main reason for this preference is the desire for the birth process to take place in a natural environment with less intervention and a relaxing atmosphere.
Preparation Before Birth
• Prepare a birth plan: If you're considering water birth, make a detailed plan with your doctor. Consider whether a water birth is suitable for you and evaluate the risks.
• Physical preparation: Your doctor will assess whether you are physically ready for labor. Your body health is important for you to feel comfortable in the water environment.
• Choose a hospital or birth center suitable for water birth: Not every hospital or birth center may be suitable for water birth. Therefore, the place where you will give birth must have the necessary equipment and experience.
Certain conditions must be met before opting for water birth. Here are a few examples of these conditions:
1. The expectant mother requests a water birth,
2. The doctor approves the water birth,
3. The pregnancy is in the low-risk group,
4. The pregnancy is between 37-42 weeks,
5. The estimated normal birth weight of the baby is between 2500-4000 grams,
6. The baby's heart rate is normal,
7. Health professionals, such as the doctor, nurse, and midwife, are available to support the labor process,
8. Infection control measures are in place,
9. The appropriate environment is ready,
10. The water temperature is between 37-38ºC, and necessary preparations are made to maintain the temperature consistently,
When these conditions are met, water birth can be a safe and comfortable option.
